K-Gr 3 This series of board books is sure to give children and adults alike more than just a few chuckles. Illustrated in dePaola's delightful style, the books show child-like features on kittens, from a disappointed kitten whose day at the beach is rained on (Katie & Kit at the Beach) to the demanding look of a bully (Katie, Kit, and Cousin Tom). In Katie's Good Idea, Kit has a common problemhis legs are not long enough to reach the pedals of his new tricycle (which is said to be red but is really orange and pink). In Pajamas for Kit , the toddler-kittens are all ready to spend the night at Grandma and Grandpa's house, when Kit decides to repack his bag with more of his precious belongings, only to find once he arrives that he has left out one very important itemhis pajamas. Preschoolers and early readers will easily relate to all of the themes that dePaola has chosen, and will relish the appealing personalities of the kitten kids, but it is Katie, Kit, & Cousin Tom that is sure to hit home with any child who has ever faced a bully. These four board books will take their place along side those by Rosemary Wells and Helen Oxenbury. Blair Christolon, Prince William Library, Manassas, Va.
