Overview

Montreal, Quebec . . . A charming city on the St. Lawrence River, historic, sophisticated, but beneath it all lies an extensive underground where treacherous vampires are plotting to seize the country.

Lucifer Scuderi is a vampire--handsome and charismatic, a powerful hunter of unusual skill--who arrives in Montreal to take on the most important hunt of his life. Someone has kidnapped the mate of Canada's ruling vampire lord, and it's up to Lucifer to find him before his death sets off a crisis that could engulf the entire continent.

Eleanor Morel lost everything--including the love of her life--when she became a vampire. But now, twenty years later, she's a trusted bodyguard to the Canadian lord, Sophia, and the only person Sophia can count on to lead the search for her endangered mate. But what Eleanor doesn't know is that the special hunter she'll be working with is none other than her long-lost love. And he's demanding answers.

Lucifer's love for Eleanor burns as hot as his anger towards her for leaving him. But they'll have to find a way to set history aside and work together if they're going to unravel the twisted betrayal that threatens not only Sophia and her mate, but the whole continent. Because the European vampires are on the move. And if Canada falls, the rest of North America could follow . . .

D. B. Reynolds is the RT and EPIC Award-Winning author of the Vampires in America series of paranormal romance and an Emmy-nominated television sound editor. She lives with her husband of many years in a flammable canyon near Los Angeles, and when she's not writing her own books, she can usually be found reading someone else's.

In this book 11 of Vampires in America, the vampire wars between the Americans and Euro vamps continue to heat up at a dramatic and violent pace. Even though Raphael and Cyn defeated Mathilde, her cronies are now making a play for Sophia’s territory of Canada. They have kidnapped her mate, Colin Murphy, torturing him brutally in order to undermine Sophia’s ability to defend her land and people. Luc Scuderi is on loan from Aden to help tract down Colin and defeat Sophia’s enemies, many of whom are her own vampires. Luc’s tremendous skills and power make him a worthy asset for any vampire lord. Several years before, Luc had been in love with a woman who disappeared suddenly. He believed her dead only to find that Eleanor was not only alive, but Sophia’s vampire bodyguard. She had been brutally and forcibly turned by one of Luc’s rivals. Eleanor believed that Luc could never love her because vampires very rarely mated with one another. Luc is handsome, powerful, and very arrogant vampire poised to become a lord in his own right. When Luc agrees to help Sophia at lord Aden’s request, he is stunned to find Eleanor, the love of his life whom he thought lost forever. They put aside their past to work together rescuing Colin and helping Sophia, who now is being attacked on several fronts by the land grabbing Eurovamps invading her region. As usual with this author, we see into the past of Luc and Eleanor to what their relationship was like when they were first together. One thing Luc knows for sure, he is never letting Eleanor go again no matter what the cost to his future. Eleanor is a bit different from some of the female vampires we have seen in that she has only been a vampire for a relatively short period and really has more human sensibilities emotionally speaking. Eleanor and Luc make a good team both on the job and in a more personal way once they come to terms with their past heartbreak and get over some long held hurts. Clearly the Eurovamps are still coveting the American lands after trashing their own backyard. Much more is on the line than just Canada so one thing has become very clear: War is coming. Fans of this series should enjoy Luc and Eleanor’s story.

This is the 11th book in the Vampires in America series by D. B. Reynolds. This is the story of Lucifer and Eleanor, but this story plays a little differently then the rest because this is also about Vampire Lord Sophia and Colin, her mate. Colin has been betrayed and kidnapped by the European vampire lords cabal working to take over North America. Lucifer is brought in to locate and retrieve Colin and find the vampires responsible for betraying Sophia and taking Colin, in an attempt to throw her off her game and takeover the Canadian territory. Lucifer is Aden's child and is directed to assist Sophia in locating her mate. Eleanor is bound to Sophia and is partnered with Lucifer, in as much to keep an eye on him as assist him in locating her lords mate, Colin. But Lucifer and Eleanor have history and were together before Eleanor was kidnapped and turned. Lucifer, thinking Eleanor was dead, comes face to face with her on this mission. There are plenty of flashbacks to fill-in their history but the mission to rescue Colin while working out their issues, blends smoothly together to bring you a complete story, even with the "two-fold" story-line. This book brings us suspense and drama focusing on these two couples while continuing to build on the on-going story with the European vampires and their attempts to take the North America for themselves. This story felt more like a "bridge" between the previous books and coming books that will focus on Raphael bringing the war to the European lords. This is a integral part of the coming events and I wouldn't miss out on this book. It's worth the time to read and "gear-up" Raphael's plans to bring the war to Europe!

Not even decades, lies or vampire politics will keep true apart in this hot and sexy second chance paranormal romance enveloped in treachery and excitement. Lucifer Scuderi lives for the hunt and after Lord Sophia of Canada requests the vampire Lords of America to help search for her kidnapped mate, Lucifer knows he’ll get him back otherwise the entire continent is at risk of invasion from the European vampires. What he didn’t count on was that the vampire who’s been partnered up to help him is none other than the love of his very long existence who left him without a word twenty years ago. Eleanor Morel met and fell in love with Lucas when she was human and thought she would spend eternity with him until the night she was transformed into a vampire because a vampire rarely mated with another vampire. Not being able to face his rejection she left everything, including him, behind. Now she’s the most trusted member of Sophia’s entourage assigned to bring back her Lady’s mate alongside the vampire who stole her heart and is now equal parts happy and angry at her and requiring an explanation. Can they find a way to work together and perhaps get a second chance at forever? I’ve loved every book in the Vampires in America Series I’ve read. D.B. Reynolds keeps writing fascinating books with appealing characters, hooking plots and excellent world building. Lucifer is an excellent addition to the series making it hard to decide who my favorite vampire is. This eleventh installment in the series continues with the threat regarding the European vampires taking over America which brings back all the vampire lords including brief appearances by Raphael himself, but mostly involving Sophia whose mate has been taken and served as a major subplot in the book, gave it added emotional boost and pushed the overall arc. But the main plot revolves around a second chance at love between Lucifer and Eleanor. Lucifer is an incredibly charismatic hero, smart, strong, charming, domineering and sexy. It was impossible for Eleanor to resist him with all his seductive looks and endearments. Elle/Eleanor was perfect for him, not just because he was her one and only love but because she’s come into her vampire skin becoming bold and b@d@$$ all on her own. Their chemistry was instant and scorching hot, especially considering they’d never stopped loving each other during the last two decades. They had some explaining to do, mostly on Eleanor’s part, as well as a ton of investigative work and action packed battles to contend with, but also found time to reconnect and rekindle their love. Christian is book #11 in the Vampires in America series by D.B. Reynolds. This is a full length paranormal romance novel, told from several points of view. Even though it can be read as a standalone it is strongly advised that it be read in the series’ order or at least after reading book #4 and #10 in order to fully enjoy the subplot surrounding Lucifer and Eleanor’s love story.

What can I say about D.B. Reynolds that hasn’t already been said? I mean seriously. This woman is so awesome! Every story she writes is dangerous, exciting, mysterious and provocative. And that is definitely true in LUCIFER, Book 11 in the Vampires in America series! There ain’t nothing sexier than a French-Cajun vampire! Lucifer is powerful, charming and very deadly. He’s been asked to help find the kidnapped mate to the Vampire of Canada. His partner for this mission is someone not unknown to Lucifer. In fact, she’s a woman he loved a long time ago. She vanished just vanished. Needless to say, Lucifer is a bit upset. And when a Vampire is upset, nothing good ever comes of it. Eleanor is a strong vampire. She’s earned her place at the side of her Vampire Lord. She’s loyal, efficient, and also deadly. She’s not too keen on outsiders coming into their territory to help find the Vampire Lord’s mate, but knows they need all the help they can get. When she finds out who is leading the search, she is completely blind-sided. As they work together, old memories start to resurface and lines get blurred quickly as Eleanor’s resistance to the sexy vampire falters. Lucifer’s charm is just as deadly as it was when she was human. As the pair search for the missing mate, deep layers of rot are revealed in the Canadian Vampire Lord’s territory. Loyalties are tested and traitors are more abundant than allies. Who can be trusted? Lucifer and Eleanor face countless unknown threats. The most dangerous one of all may not involve losing their heads…but their hearts. I highly recommend this and every book in the Vampires in America series! ***ARC generously provided by the publisher in exchange for an honest review. All conclusions reached are my own***

My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!! ***I choose what I read and review based on what intrigues me!! The cover definitely fits with the rest of them like works of art that should be appreciated. This is the 11th book in the series (not counting novellas). This series is for adults who are not of the faint of heart. There is violence and love in spades. I really love D.B. Reynolds writing style. Her books are packed with action, intrigue, and baggage to go with the vampires’ long lives. I’m always intrigued and never want to put the book down whichever one it is. Her humor written through makes me laugh. She always takes you on an emotionally journey. Lucifer and Eleanor’s story is just as fantastic as I find each story to be. This story mostly takes place in Canada in Sophia’s territory. I don’t want to give anything away, so read the blurb and if you are intrigued, you definitely want to read this book. I highly recommend the entire series to vampire fanatics who understand the powerful relationships with vampires. In this series, there is NEVER a dull moment!

4.5 stars Lucifer takes the reader back to the Vampires in America world, in a tale of love, passion, loyalty and betrayal, with lots of action. I must confess that the scenes from Sophia's point of view were my favorites, they were special and very emotional for she's suffering with her mate Colin's abduction and torture. Sophia and Colin are a very special couple in the series and I suffered along with Sophia until Colin's recovery. Sophia, once again, showed what she's made of and won't let the European vampires try to take her territory from her. She's a strong heroine, vampire, Lord and mate and I have a big appreciaton of her. Lucifer - Lucifer was a surprise, a delicious surprise! He's handsome, he's loyal, he's tough and he's got power although he's very young in vampire's terms. I loved Lucifer! It touched me how he felt about Eleanor, even after more than 20 years after she left him without a word. He never had doubts about wanting her now and he does everything to get her back. You're important to me, damnit. I lost you once, and I won't do it again. I can't. Eleanor, also a vampire, proved to be another strong and clever woman, I liked her very much. They look good together as a couple and they also work well together looking for Colin in Montreal. The fact that this novel happens in Canada was another plus for me, I was thrilled to know of this; I love reading books happening there. What can I say? Once again, D.B. Reynolds bring to life a wonderful new couple, both vampires this time and I was happy with the sensitive way the author worked the issue about them having to feed from humans. I just can't wait for the next novel! "And I know you, Luc. You're a good man." "Well, don't tell anyone that. I have a rep to maintain." **** "You're right. Colin's solid." "But not as beautiful as me," Lucifer commented. She laughed. "No one's as beautiful as you are." "That's what I thought."

I'm kicking myself for not knowing about this series. This is book 11 and despite not reading previous books, I wasn't lost. You quickly learn the players involved and what the immediate concern is and it takes off from there. You can read this as a standalone but if they are all as good as this one, you will want to start at book 1. This books main focus is on Lucifer and Eleanor with a minor focus on Sophia and Colin. Colin is Sophia's human mate who was kidnapped and is being tortured to try to distract Sophia so the enemy can bring her down and take over her territory. This is where Lucifer comes in. He is asked to conduct this search and Sophia has asked her bodyguard, Eleanor to help him. Eleanor used to be Lucifer's human mate before another vampire changed her to take her away from him. Lucifer believed Eleanor was killed and they have not seen each other for 20 years. Lucifer has to search for Collin while dealing with the shock of learning Eleanor has been alive all these years. There is a lot going on in this story but it never felt like it was too much. Great characters, great story line and I look forward to going back and reading the previous books! Lucifer, Book 11 of The Vampires in America Series,  D.B. Reynolds Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews Genre: Romance, Sci-fi and Fantasy Well, I’ve said before – I love this series, its one that I pick up from time to time and re-read all the stories so far. Its one of those series where each book is complete as far as the romance goes, ( apart from the first – but that was Raphael, and that guy needed two books!) However there’s also a strong overarching main plot, and that's where the European vampires come in. they’re looking at how much space there is in the US compared to what they hold, and have been making attempts to take parts over. So far they’ve been pushed back, out witted despite some dirty tricks, but the threat just grows greater each time, with the idea of taking over an area and becoming a Lord attracting more and more European Vampires. Now they seem to be teaming up in some way, though as ever Vampires don’t really do teamwork that well, they all distrust each other so much. Raphael has been instrumental in holding areas of the US together, he’s powerful and some of the current Vampire Lords are either his own Children, or ones he’s been close to for many years and who trust him. Its not often that happens, and its a mark of how respected and powerful he is, and how visionary, that his ideas when this all started have held things together so far. He’s happy with his own territory but with Vampires its always under challenge; conflict and battle is a way of life, so he’s worked to help put strong vampires who trust/respect him in power in the areas close to him. America is a huge place though, and Sophia, Lord of Canada has a vast area to control. Raphael helped her when the previous Lord was missing, and she was searching for him. That was a dangerous time all round, he’d been a weak Lord and it was hard to know who to trust. She’s tried hard to rectify things since his death but its been a tough haul, and now her Mate Colin has been taken, with everything pointing to betrayal from within. She needs help to find him, but is this a wider plot, bringing in not just threats to Canada, but part of the whole European threat?  Raphael and a couple of other Lords are the only ones she’s trusted enough to ask for help. Its a thin line, too much aid and she risks being seen as weak, too little and Colin’s dead. Sophia wasn’t ever one of my favourite stories but I’ve always liked her Mate Colin. He’s incredibly loyal, and well respected among the vampires, and it doesn’t hurt that he’s friends with Cyn, Raphael's Mate.  I didn’t really feel I knew her before but in this book I get a much better idea of her, and felt I understand her more. She’s had a tough time, female among a group of very Alpha, territorial males. There are few vampire females and even fewer in positions of power, and she has to work harder than the men to been seen as strong enough to rule. She’s tried to be fair, tried not to be weak as the former Lord, Lucien, was, tried to be just but now it looks like that has backfired and someone – or several someones have betrayed her. Colin warned her she needed to be tough on some of the Vampires, not to trust them, but she wanted to give them a chance, and now they are paying for that with Colin being tortured nightly and videos being sent to her. I loved Eleanor, understood why she hadn’t contacted Lucifer, it was heartbreaking what happned to her and how she perceived her futu
