Nobel Peace Prize winner and New York Times bestselling author Malala Yousafzai's first picture book, inspired by her own childhood.

* "This is a wonderful read for younger students that will also provide insight and encourage discussion about the wider world. ... The simplicity of Yousafzai's writing and the powerful message she sends, make this book inspirational for all."
School Library Journal (starred review)

Malala's first picture book will inspire young readers everywhere to find the magic all around them.

As a child in Pakistan, Malala made a wish for a magic pencil. She would use it to make everyone happy, to erase the smell of garbage from her city, to sleep an extra hour in the morning. But as she grew older, Malala saw that there were more important things to wish for. She saw a world that needed fixing. And even if she never found a magic pencil, Malala realized that she could still work hard every day to make her wishes come true.
This beautifully illustrated volume tells Malala's story for a younger audience and shows them the worldview that allowed Malala to hold on to hope even in the most difficult of times.

What a beautiful book! I’ve been waiting to read this story for younger readers and it didn’t disappoint. I love how her story has been written in a way young children can understand and appreciate. Also, what better way to encourage young people to be magical by using their voice. Finally, yes!, to the illustrations of Malala at home in the evening sans hijab. As an educator, I feel like these illustrations are the perfect way to begin conversations with students on what the hijab is and its importance, so that students can learn about other cultures and be able to respect the hijab and those who wear it.

Malala's Magic Pencil is the true story of a young girl who dreamed of what could be with her magic pencil! Young Malala dreamed of owning a magic pencil that she can control what is going on around her like putting a lock on her bedroom door and to stop time to gain that extra hour of sleep, and even erasing certain smells around her. But that magic pencil never came to be but going to school seemed to be even more better than a magic pencil until certain forces tried to stop her from attending school without much success. It's only then that Malala's voice became even more powerful that she can only imagine that would one day change the world for the better! This book was truly amazing in the sense that a young woman wrote this, describing what life is like for her and her family while dreaming of a much better future. It was written in a way that young kids can understand what is going on in Pakistan without scaring them too much. Just reading this book is heart-breaking for what those powerful people tried to do to Malala to stop her from dreaming but it didn't work. I do have to say that the Illustrations truly make this book even more special! I can only wish that Malala's wish for the world can come true sooner rather than later! Thank You to Malala Yousafzai for sharing your story with the world! I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book from RockStar Book Tours!
