What are the underlying handful of fundamentals that haven't changed for over a hundred years? From Harnish's famous One-Page Strategic Plan to his concise outline of eight practical actions you can take to strengthen your culture, this book is a compilation of best practices adapted from some of the best-run firms on the planet. Included is an instructive chapter co-authored by Rich Russakoff, revealing winning tactics to get banks to finance your business. Lastly, there are case studies demonstrating the validity of Harnish's practical approaches.

If you are looking for an expanded and updated version of this 2002 best-seller, look for Verne Harnish’s latest title Scaling Up: How a Few Companies Make It...and Why the Rest Don’t (Rockefeller Habits 2.0).  In Scaling Up, Harnish and his team share practical tools and techniques for building an industry-dominating business. These approaches have been honed from over three decades of advising tens of thousands of CEOs and executives and helping them navigate the increasing complexities (and weight) that come with scaling up a venture. This book is written so everyone - from frontline employees to senior executives - can get aligned in contributing to the growth of a firm. There’s no reason to do it alone, yet many top leaders feel like they are the ones dragging the rest of the organization up the S-curve of growth. This book can help you turn what feels like an anchor into wind at your back — creating a company where the team is engaged; the customers are doing your marketing; and everyone is making money.  To accomplish this, Scaling Up focuses on the four major decision areas every company must get right: People, Strategy, Execution, and Cash. The book includes a series of new one-page tools including the updated One-Page Strategic Plan and the Rockefeller Habits Checklist™, which more than 40,000 firms around the globe have used to scale their companies successfully — many to $1 billion and beyond. Running a business is ultimately about freedom. Scaling Up shows business leaders how to get their organizations moving in sync to create something significant and enjoy the ride.

When I worked IN our business as salesman or technician I knew exactly what to do. When I wanted to work ON our business as President and CEO I was at a complete loss. If you have a burning desire to grow your business, and become successful but like me, you don't know where to start, then you MUST READ Verne's book. If you are content with slow growth, or if you think you have already heard everything you need to know, then don't waste your time. In the 6 years that I have been following the methods described in this book I have seen my business grow over 25,000%. From the outside that must sound too good to be true. However, if you want to see that kind of growth and you are willing to do the work required but you just don't know where to start, then pick up Verne's book and start practicing these habits.

Harnish's book is very clear about the importance of core values, mission, alignment and rythym. All concepts that most of us know, but don't know how to really implement. The difference between this book and others I've read, is that it gives you well thought out tools which you can implement with confidence. It's obvious that these tools have been honed through Mr. Harnish's work with many entrepreneurs and CEOs. Pay special attention to the planning pyramid; it's helped me share the big vision and get the organization into alignment. By putting stakes in the ground, it also quickly helps to identify any holes there may be in the overall strategy. All in all, this is a must read.

Verne is a guru when it comes to providing simple concepts to help run a growth business. The principles outlined teach discipline and business tools that help leaders manage their time and their businesses. When practiced, they are powerful. These concepts helped our company learn how to manage growth of 300% per year for the last four years. This rapid growth would have torn our company apart without the Verne's practical teachings.

One of the BEST books for how to keep a growing business on track. Also how to run certain types of meetings. Focus on 90 day goals and accomplish 1 major thing per quarter. Feels like Boot Camp when I'm reading it.
