When coping is cutting, healing can’t come.

When Krystal’s parents separate, she is thrust into a new home and a new school. Forced to live in the man’ house her mother had an affair with, she is ashamed. Alone and suffering in silence, she deals with the pain the only way she knows how – with a broken piece of glass.

At school, she makes one friend, Em, who invites her to volunteer with her family. Together, they serve soup and work alongside a unique crew at the local homeless shelter. When she sees a boy from her school in the food line, he begs her to keep his secret.

Everyone has secrets. She can't risk telling anyone hers because her scars control her life.

“This is a heartwarming story that was written from the heart. It brought real meaning to me––of some things in life––that never made sense before. It made me smile, and also brought tears to my eyes. This is a must read. I wasn’t able to put it down once I started.”
“A compelling story that will have readers touched and unable to put it down. I’ve read it more than once and each and every time it brings tears to my eyes.”
“WOW! It is not an easy book to read, but it is a powerful book. Heartbreaking, heartwarming, challenging and uplifting.”

“Memoirs of a Girl Who Loves God” is about a teenage girl who uses self-harm as a coping mechanism after her parents separate and about her struggle to stop. While this statement is true, the book is about so much more. “Memoirs of a Girl Who Loves God” is a heartwarming and at times heart-wrenching story about hardships, friendships, love, and hope. It is a powerful story, filled with realistic and endearing characters. I smiled plenty, laughed much, and got a little choked up a couple times. Although the story of Krystal involves some dark subject matter, it is the message of love that demands the spotlight. Like icing on a cake, this story is wrapped in a beautiful cover. It is a great addition to any library, especially mine.

I absolutely fell in love with this book and the writer. I can relate to Krystals story and was instantly captivated on how real Krystals emotions felt as I was reading. The writers ability to capture and put into words the trials and tribulations that many young girls go through was amazing. This book offers hope and inspiration!

This may be a book written from the teenage perspective, but as a 50 something year old, I truly loved it. Maybe because I'm a mom, I could relate to Krystal as a daughter. Or maybe it was because I'm a product of a nasty divorce as a child. Her pain and anger were real, and finding God in the midst of it was uplifting.
