About the Author

rupi kaur is a bestselling author and illustrator of two collections of poetry. her artistic expression began at the age of 5 when her mother handed her a paintbrush and said—draw your heart out. while studying at the university of waterloo rupi self-published her first collection milk and honey in 2014. milk and honey became an international phenomenon that's been translated into over 30 languages and sold over 2.5 million copies. rupi's long-awaited second collection the sun and her flowers was published in 2017 and immediately debuted as a #1 global bestseller. through her poetry rupi explores a variety of themes ranging from love. loss. trauma. healing. femininity. migration. revolution.

rupi is a storyteller and chronicler. there’s a simplicity and nuance to her work that has found a home in the hearts of millions. this magic is best captured in her stage performances which are magnetic musical interactions of poetry art and theatre. in the years to come rupi hopes to continue her artistic exploration through art and poetry—searching for ways to understand and articulate the world around her.

This is a nice book. Reminds me of this one: https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/hearts-arent-broken-theyre-dropped-carina-marie-marquez/1127769852?ean=9781982061975. Check out that one as well. Nice story of phases and all.

utterly unoriginal treatment of very common ideas—grade-school level poetry, seriously.

OMG I feel that all things womanhood are validated. The struggle, the heartbreak, the beauty, THE STRENGTH. I loved every...single...word. My favorite quote: “if you were born with the weakness to fall you were born with the strength to rise”

This made me feel so many emotions I was confused at myself and my feelings. One of the most touching and uplifting books I've ever read. Maybe not appropriate for all ages unless you are mature for your age, but it made me cry and I NEVER cry. My friend has really terrible depression and is suicidal, but this book helps her cope through the more difficult times and she truly loves it and the other book by the same author(i forgot what it was called, but it had Sunflower in the title) I am thanful so much for this book and for the author who was willing to share her story.

I enjoyed the poetry in this book. The last 2 chapters of the book really made me think cause I actually can relate to some of the things when it came to loving someone to breaking up and allowing yourself to feel and embrace the pain after a break up and moving on from it. I would recommend this book.

milk and honey is a beautiful book of poetry about overcoming those moments in life that have the power to destroy us and also living in the moments where we are with the one with love, even if that person is our own self. There are also poems about living life as a woman in today's society. Some of the poems are just a few words and others are little longer. But all of the poems resonate will resonate with you and give you something to think about.

It's a very short book, but if you've dealt with interpersonal abuse or hardships, then it's possible you'll find your own thoughts and experiences in this book. I know I did. :3
