"I used to be a performer, but I really don't consider myself a performer anymore," says an introspective Lauryn Hill at the beginning of her live, two-disc set of new material, MTV Unplugged No. 2.0. "I'm just sharing." And share -- the joys and the pains she's experienced during her four-year absence from the spotlight -- is exactly what Hill does. In a surprising move for a renowned singer and rapper, Hill accompanies herself on an instrument she's still learning, the acoustic guitar, rendering the mesmerizing and emotive 22-song set even more intimate. Throughout, she huskily (and sometimes hoarsely) sings and raps heartfelt, spiritually attuned songs of redemption and rebirth (the confessional "I Gotta Find Peace of Mind"), rebellion (the Bob Marley-esque "Oh Jerusalem"), and renewed romance (the bossa nova-sprinkled "Just Want You Around"). Shedding some light on what prompted her transformation, the former Fugee admits that at the height of her career -- she won five Grammys in 1999 for her solo debut, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, including Album of the Year -- she felt trapped by her public persona, but has since learned to love and accept the real Lauryn. "This is the first time you're meeting me," the married mother of three tells her audience. "Don't think you met me before." While this Lauryn is less inclined to rock designer rags or entertain others' opinions, she remains one of hip-hop's leading visionaries. And her fearlessness -- especially on the breathtaking "Peace of Mind," where she breaks into tears while singing the praises of "a merciful, wonderful God" -- is truly inspirational.

As an artist Lauryn is more than entitled to create whatever music she is feeling inside. However I can't say that I was feeling it. For people who have not heard her on The Score with The Fugees or her Miseducation you will most likely enjoy the cd. It is both sincere and touching in it's live acoustic preformance. This would be fine from anyone else, but Lauryn has a rare gift. She is a wonderful MC! This is nothing like what I'd hoped for after Miseducation, gone is her witty humor, wise rhymes and catchy beats. For her to back out of R&B and hiphop to do an acoustic set on MTV just kills me. But if and when she finds her beats again I will as will many of her other old fans welcome her back with open arms.

Everybody's in a ''box!'' What Lauryn has done is ''DARED'' to resist the establishment, and now ''the majority'' is so confused. They complain ''her voice this...'' and ''her accompaniment that...'' --yada, yada, yada! At the end of the day (and I'll bet the farm on this one--yours and mine) Lauryn Hill will emerge with ''the victory'' like the ''Conquering Lion she is!'' I can only imagine how her critics will ''frame'' that. Unplugged No. 2.0 --Lauryn Hill is ''tight and girlfriend can just sing!'' (1)The lyrics in all of the songs are just sheer genius and truth: ''when the son of perdition is commander in chief, the standard is thief'' Ouch! In another song, she says ''what a paradox, having God trapped in a box, all this time professing to be spiritual.'' HEY! (2) The melodies Lauryn finds on that guitar are just soul stirring!! When she plays the first chunk of I Get Out, she comes back so seamlessly and powerful, the audience is mesmerized to the point that they just spontaneously break out in applause! (3)When you watch the video, you can actually see the audience ''feeling'' the chords and the words! (4) And ''raspy''? Raspy is an ASSET in Lauryn Hill!! Raspy makes Lauryn Unique and Heartfelt. (5)And finally, the interludes, they are FUNNY and INSTRUCTIONAL and REFLECTIVE and HAPPY. Lauryn says in one ''the media says I'm crazy and deranged. . . so, when I do these songs I might twitch a little cause when people think you're crazy and deranged they will leave you alone. Now I have so much peace! So as far as yall know, I'm crazy and deranged . . that's my story and I'm sticking to it!'' The interludes connect Lauryn one-on-one to her fans. This CD without question 5STAR.

lauryn is a true artist who explores all the subjects that we are too afraid to talk about.what amazes me is fearelessness to take on any other artist has ventured out against the norm to create a live album with all new songs performed with a tired voice,no other artist could ever dream of doing this!!! Lauryn is inspirational and i cant wait for an in-studio album.PIWE SOUTH AFRICA

Lauryn Hill has an awesome CD out giving glory to the Son of God. She has grabed on to the Light of God and she is sharing it with the world. All kinds of people are coming to Jesus Christ in huge ways, awesome. There is this one song that sheds light in dark corners of my heart. I think its called The Adam Theory or something like that. Check it out. The awesome thing is that God is in the process of making hearts pure. It can be painful but the circumcision of the heart by the Spirit brings freedom. ''Remove the stain of my guilt, Create in me a clean heart, O God'' Psalm 51:9-10

I am pushin the narcotic that is Lauryn's music upon you for a reason- it's soul food, all natural and ripe for consumption. I would argue that Lauryn is the premeire artist of our generation. Her brilliance, skill, beauty, and honesty could not be more apparent. Her lyrics are refreshing because they are smart... her artistry is so raw and undoubtedly divinly inspired. The approach is definately unusual, How many artist allow you to hear them build, create, and demonstrate new songs as this Unplugged album does? You get the feeling that this album is for the fans... she has permitted a corporate title to be slapped unto her newest album for you... she wants to get her music to the masses, she just wants you to not only hear her music/lyrics, but have it resonate with you, and follow you to school, to work, etc. The intimacy of this album may be the best thing about it. I will also add that contrary to what many have said, this is not a gospel or ''christian'' album. While she does include many references from the Torah, I truely think some people are just trying to graft their own religious message into Lauryn's words. If you listen to all her lyrics you will overstand what I am telling you. If anything, this music makes the influence that Rastafarianism has had on her quite apparent. Unltimatly it must be said that Lauryn Hill's music is universal. Treat yourSelf to something real.

Don't listen to what those critics have to say about this album. All they're looking for is some commericialized artist and can't appreciate true talent. Lauryn has obviously gone through some profound changes and it shows on this album. Her voice is unreal, even better than when she was in the stuio. The album is amazing and is wonderful to just sit back and relax to.

Cool album.. lyrically deep at points, amatuerish at others. Her guitar strumming doesn't rival any of the greats.. but in a way adds to the flavor of the rawness Lauryn is bringing. A raspy voice, raw lyrics, and simple guitar melodies makes for a folky experience with a very talented musician.

I have read many a reviews about this ''Unplugged'' album Lauryn Hill has blessed us with. Most of these reviews were harsh, critics say she has fallen, that she is unstable, etc. But I beg of you to ignore these words. They are the words of an industry that wants only to sell happy images not images of self-repair, and education. What Lauryn is essentially doing is allowing the world to watch her recover from the ups and downs that we all experience. For this I thank her, as a woman I needed to know that pain happens, even to the best of us. Often we are bombarded with songs that would have us believe that we are defective becasue our world is not that of the songress, Let go of that idea!!! Lauryn, although it is unlikely that you will read this I thank you from the bottom of my heart of this. Your rich voice, even when raspy, can never sound bad. I love your Hip-Hop Folk songs.

There are those who profess to be honest and those who truly are. Lauryn is the truth! She personifies it! A testiment to what she has expierenced in her life and she has laid it out for the world to hear, and I am glad that she did. I have learned from her and have been 'sharing' my 'special gifts' to those around me. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this album to all in the world to hear. It will make you take a look at what we are all doing to eachother whether we are aware of it or not.We gotta get out of ALL these boxes!

With Hip Hop drowning in materialism and R&B suffering from mediocrity, it is refreshing to see an artist not worried about selling records. This cd is truly an experience and I was touched by Lauryn's sincerity. This is a classic.

Prior to this album, I would have told you that I liked some of what Lauryn Hill has done. There are a few standout cuts on some of the old Fugee's stuff and the ''Miseducation'' album, but nothing that's ever really moved me. This album on the other hand, gave me goosebumps from beginning to end. In the ''Interlude'' tracks Lauryn talks a lot about reality, and that is exactly what she delivers. As a listener who enjoys a ''raw'' record this album thrills me. I love the fact that she misses some high notes, runs out of breath while rhyming and momentarily forgets the words to songs. It's like she's sitting on the back porch just singing for friends. I wish more hip-hop/ R & B acts would follow her lead by ceasing to talk about ''keeping it real'' and start doing it. (The only downside to this album is the spoken tracks. They're very interesting the first and maybe the second listen, but who wants to hear them over and over?)

Finally, but it was worth the wait¿ well worth it. This CD is nothing like anything I've ever heard before. It is intriguingly interesting, with her relaxing voice and that mellow mood lifting guitar, I was thoroughly impressed. I cannot stop listening to it. I love her and as I continue to listen to her music, I then realize that no other artist from such a diverse musical genre could have pulled it off. There was no background music, no manipulated studio samples, just her (Ms. Lauryn Hill) and that guitar. Her topics ranged from overcoming personal challenges to covert political struggles. It is worth any amount of money most establishments are attempting to charge (I can't believe I just said that), but buy this CD.

Her lyrics are incredible, her passion is unbelievable, and her music is beautiful. This is definitely a raw performance, and makes me excited to think that there will be a smoother studio version out later this year.

The good news is that Lauryn Hill is back. The bad news is that the album is not good. First, it fails to entertain. If an artist is going to ask me to give up $20 the least the singer can do is be able to sing. Lauryn's voice is hoarse and she does too much talking on this CD. Second, while there's nothing wrong with making a personal album this one is so insular that the casual listener won't get it. What God is Ms. Hill singing about? I wasn't sure. The guitar playing is terrible. If I want a lecture I'll go back to college. If I wanted a sermon,I'd go to church. I expected to be amused by a superb musician. Instead I got half baked mess. Hopefully, this is just a warm up for Lauryn Hill and the next album will be a real one and not something that sounds like a bad demo tape.

First let me tell I'm an Italian Lauryn Hill's fan since when she was the youngest rap singer in the Fugees (Refugee Camp). With this double CD live album, Lauryn showed us (if there was the need) her incredible romantic voice. I bought the India Arie's album cause I was looking (after so many years) for something similar to Lauryn's voice. I tried to find but NOTHING. Jill Scott, N'Dea Davenport, India Arie...nice soul and R&B voices but they're not Lauryn! She's definitely the queen of the R&B! A little critic, but maybe it's only my own CD, is that CD2 is recoreded to a less high volume than the 1st. Anyway it's quite a great album, right for those rainy days, or those days to spend in front of a fire both at home or on a beach. I heard and heard and heard again and again her solo album ''The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill'' and i think I've tested the real capability of optical CD to last during the poor CD really welcomed the new release from MTV, now it can ''take a breath''. Listen the guitar and let it bring you over waves of real music directly from her soul through your heart. Listen to her voice and you'll find yourself flying on the wings of freedom and rights. Definitely a Great Album that everyone who loves R&B must have in his own discography. Welcome back Lauryn and hope to see your new album soon!!

She is incredible. I watched her performance and it was so touching. My girl loves God and her man and herself and it's seen through her records. She's like a social politician which is great. She should run for office. If her lyrics were her platform, I'd vote for her. She speaks truth. God Bless You L-Boogie.

Such a real artist. I just love Lauryn Hill. She is so unique in talent.A real strong voice, you don't hear those much anymore. It's scandalous that young sibling sisters out there who can't sing are so publicized.Hint, one is blond and one has her hair died black. Can't help but to cry when you hear Lauryn Hill she brings out such reality and you say, "hey there's someone who can sing it"!Just Beautiful! Buy the album

Sharing her experiences, especially the bad, and letting us know that there is a way out and around our difficulties - Lauryn has transcended music with this brillant performance. She has shared her soul and has inspired me to put my experiences in perspective.

This is an excellent sopomore effort from the true queen of hip-hop. She has redefined herself and her music. Not only has she grown but she allows her fans to grow up with her by taking them on her journey she went through these past couple of years. She is living proof that you can own the world and still not be happy. I am extremly grateful to her for releasing this album as is, it shows her realness and willingness to connect with her fans. Thankyou Lauryn and we love you.
