Children are able to communicate by signing before they develop the skills necessary for speech. By teaching sign language to children from as young as seven months we can help them to convey their emotions and their needs. This first signing guide for hearing and deaf children contains over forty key signs. Designed for parents and carers to share with babies, with it's simple and clear instructions and endearing illustrations, this book is an ideal introduction to signing. A helpful tip is given at the bottom of each page to help beginners get started.

This was a lovely book. The signs were right for a child of young age, such as mom, dad, more, all done, I love you, are the kinds of words wonderyears used. I am a speech therapist, and really appreciated giving this book to my student's parent, who is using it diligently to teach her child vocabulary. Thank you very much for the lovely pictures and the signs. Zahida Hasan SLP

This was my three year old daughter's first signing book. She wore the book out due to how often we looked through it and practiced our signs. Thanks to sign language she was communicating with us long before she started speaking. She still uses her signs in combination with her verbal language. We also love being able to communicate with her across the room in extended family situations without raising our voices. She knows the signs and immediately responds to them. I'm buying another copy of this book since there is another baby on the way.

Originally, this book was a gift for my husband and I at a baby shower. We enjoyed reading it and practicing a few of the signs. When the baby was six months of age, I picked it up again and began giving myself a refresher course and practicing with the baby. The book is very simple and clear. The pictures are big and there are arrows to show the direction of the sign. The signs the author picked make sense and are very useful in everyday life with a child. Our child has mastered most of these signs and now points to the signs and tells us what they are. Sometimes she does so with the sign and sometimes with the spoken word. I would recommend this book to first time parents who are considering incorporating at least some basic signs into baby's life.
