Overview

Lucas Davenport tracks a prolific serial killer in the new nail-biting #1 New York Times-bestseller from John Sandford.

Clayton Deese looks like a small-time criminal, muscle for hire when his loan shark boss needs to teach someone a lesson. Now, seven months after a job that went south and landed him in jail, Deese has skipped out on bail, and the U.S. Marshals come looking for him. They don't much care about a low-level guy--it's his boss they want--but Deese might be their best chance to bring down the whole operation.

Then, they step onto a dirt trail behind Deese's rural Louisiana cabin and find a jungle full of graves.

Now Lucas Davenport is on the trail of a serial killer who has been operating for years without notice. His quarry is ruthless, and--as Davenport will come to find--full of surprises . . .

Sandford does it again. Your senses will react as if you were there instead of reading the book!

This thriller has a scary bad guy and a good story to invest in. Always love the banter between Lucas and Rae and Bob

There’s just something about a John Sanford novel that makes you happy that you’re a reader. All the Prey novels are different and have a great hook to reel you in. Don’t miss this one!

This story was everything a Lucas Davenport should be; weird, funny, exciting, suitably complicated and well written.

I read a lot of crime/mystery books. and Sanford’s is always more true to life than most- from the dialogue to the bad guys to the screwups. They are easy and entertaining books and I always look forward to them. It’s a laid back style hat is entertaining and often makes me laugh. I’m a Minnesotan and I can totally relate to the dialogue , people and places.

This book was very good. It did not have the "hygge", that Danish thing, mingled in its characters. Because Denmark isn't the home of My Name is Earl, gone serious. It started in New Orleans, I think, and they got a lead to L.A.- an uncle of Beauchamps, maybe. Dopey was mentioned with Harrelson, or Harvey, was that Mallow?, and then he re-arises in the book, and I can't remember if Deese covered his eyes when he shot him, if he shot him at all. (I thought Dopey was a cop, earlier playing golf.) Deese was a good character, and Smith, which brings (me) back to Howell Paine. There is humour in the book, and is in Las Vegas,...where's there a humorous bit. There is the Lalomo history and Eli's, and the heat, and Weather, and the two-hedged garden; and home invading taking the better- of selling hoovers door-to-door, anyday. There's, to be sure, this, that, and the next thing.

I read all 29 books in the Prey series and the only disappointment I experienced was when I reached the last sentence of Neon Prey. Great series, great author!

Bit of a disappointment, I'm afraid. Although the mystery/manhunt aspect is good, the dialogue is dull & seems like we've read it all before. There's nothing new here, just a darker plot with vicious bad guys & little humour to alleviate a more violent than usual story line.

If you have read and liked the Prey novels you will enjoy this one. Appreciated the humor among characters.
