Seven years ago, Luke Benning and Jenny Perrin were two college students working in Washington for the summer. Jenny was an idealist, eager to save the world and planning to become a teacher. Luke was the son of a wealthy, well-connected father who had mapped Luke's entire life out for him. Luke didn't want to attend an elite law firm and become a power-broker like his father, but he desperately craved his father's approval. Jenny's friendship and love gave him the strength to stand up to his father and to take control of his own life. How could Luke not love the strong, spirited woman who had rescued him from his father's manipulations?

But then she disappeared.

And seven years later reappeared. Only now she's different: still strong and spirited but no longer the idealist. Something happened to turn her cynical and fearful inside. As happy as she is that Luke has found her, she no longer trusts him, or herself.

Seven years before, she had saved him. Now Luke is determined to save her.

This will tug at your heart! I loved how the author starts out with present time and sets the stage. Then you travel back 7 years to discover how Luke and Jenny fell in love. I am not going into the premise of the story, because I don't want to divulge spoilers. Just know the lovemaking is mild, descriptive enough for you to fell the passion, and not at all vulgar. It is about second chances, and how they each saved each other at different times. There is an epilogue, which I always love when an author includes one - no cliff hangers either. This is about loving with all your heart, and only wanting the best for your partner, not being selfish. This was my first novel by Ms. Arnold and I will be adding myself to her newsletter to not miss any of her work. I usually like reading Regency or Highland Romances, but every now and then like to mix it up with a story that is contemporary. This suited the bill just fine. (ljb) -
