My name is Jules Hooker. I have lived through a few crappy moments in my life--and with a name like Hooker, you can just imagine--but nothing, nothing, compares to the two intensely and world-shatteringly crappy things that happened to me this last June.
Three, I guess, if you count Gilbert.
After my boyfriend dumped me on the day I thought he was going to propose, I'd have to say two other really bad things happened last June.  The first would have to be the dead body I discovered in the rental house in France where I went to get over being dumped.
The second--and very possibly I should have led with this--was the dirty bomb that exploded over the Riviera throwing me and everyone else in France back to the 1950s.
So now I'm stranded here--trying to make a living by solving murders the old fashioned way -- without help from DNA, databases, CSI crime labs or the police.
And I'm doing it in France.
Where I do not speak the language.
During the apocalypse.
Sound like fun?

Sadly a great story ruined by author's hatred and distain for America and Americans. Sadly a product of ignorant school and media. Clearly the author hasnt heard about the plethora of French violence with vast horrible results. Pick pockets, knives, murderers, rapists, etc abound. I pray she never has to defend herself. French hate Americans and anyone not French. Ive read a few of this author's works and won'Zfurther waste my time even free, the books arent worth it (unless you hate America)

-10********** Anti-American! -5***** A case for gun control? -5***** Continuous put-down of the US! -5***** Violence in the US, but all wonderful in the S of France under the same circumstances. -5**** Wishes she could be introduced as a Canadian. On the other hand, +4* well written / +1* interesting / -2* bad language / -2* grammar / -2* punctuation / -2* lack of originality, checklist of other writers (chews fingernail, designer labels, doesn't think the murderer might still be at the crime scene, "just saying," condemnation of judging, etc., +1* not hating her mother) / +2* no sex scenes. / -1* too many people to keep up with. Author needs to add "that" so that sentences aren't so confusing, learn the difference between him/his, was/were, in/into and that "their" is plural. I don't understand how a push on the back caused someone to fall backwards. Oh, well. I won't be reading any more.

I honestly read this straight through without a break! The main character and her reactions were very real and normal for the numerous and sticky situations she found herself in. The ending was a big surprise!

Not only has Kiernan-Lewis written flawless characters, I could almost smell the coffee and buttery, warm croissants. She is one of the very best mystery writers today. Each page is a gift. Enjoy!

Fun, mystery, romance. Too short, and I can't find the 4th book in the series, but enjoyed the read.
