We often hear the comment, Put Christ back into Christmas! During the Advent and Christmas season, Prayer Steps to Christmas will help you keep your heart and mind focused on Jesus Christ and what the Bible teaches about His birth and the meaning of His coming into the world. You will also learn more about the meaning of His coming into your life, if you will open your heart and invite Him to reign in the center of your life as you learn more about what He wants to do within you. One Prayer Step at a time, the thirty-one daily meditations and prayers can be read in the morning or evening, at the table before or after a meal, during family devotions, or at the beginning or close of a group Bible study or Sunday school class. You can consider the Thinking Further questions throughout the day or discuss the questions with your family, in a Bible study group, or in your church group. For more helpful ideas for how to make Christmas more Christ-centered, visit the Prayer Steps to Christmas website at:
To help those who do not have their Bible close at hand, in the back of this book you will find the records of Jesus birth as told in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke. The verses from these two books of the Bible have been put into a possible chronological order for a Harmony of the Gospels; so you can read the incidents surrounding Jesus birth in the possible chronological order of events. As you read through the Harmony of the Gospels, in either the King James Version of the Bible or the English Standard Version of the Bible, the verses in italics are verses that have been used in the Prayer Steps to Christmas meditations. With the use of hyperlinks in e-books, you can go from a verse in a meditation to read the verse in the chapters context or you can go from a verse in the Harmony of the Gospels to the Prayer Step meditation on that verse. With the flexibility e-books offer, those who need to teach or read a devotional on a particular verse of the Bible can easily read both from a chapter in the Bible and then read the daily meditation and prayer that corresponds with the portion they read from the Bible.

Many Christians, and I include myself, have developed a love-hate relationship with the Christmas season. I look forward to it each year for the stirring music, rereading the gospels’ accounts of the Savior’s birth, and the warm traditions that my family and I observe. On the other hand, I am always appalled at the crass commercialism and the overemphasis on trying to be “jolly” while, indeed, life goes on and includes all the usual ups and downs plus, nowadays, Christmas stress. Any antidote is appreciated. Here’s a gem: L.G. Parkhurst Jr.’s Prayer Steps To Christmas – Daily Quiet Time Edition is aimed straight for the heart that seeks a dose of Christmas reality amidst the noise and the clutter. Thoughtfully reassembled from Rev. Parkhurst’s repertoire of bible lessons about the events surrounding the birth of Jesus, the thirty one devotionals included provide a spiritual anchor that is not only refreshing but organized and flexible. Each chapter begins with a short scriptural “nugget” that is conveniently linked back to the root text (both KJV and ESV). Next, several paragraphs, often using metaphors to help bring out the underlying meanings, delve into the historical and moral lessons the scripture provides. A “Prayer Step” then follows that focuses the devotion toward an individualized prayer on the topic. Finally, each chapter closes with “Thinking Further” – a mental action step for adding to one’s understanding of God’s word. Available as an e-book in both Nook™ and Kindle™ formats, Prayer Steps to Christmas may be taken as a daily dose of Christian “serum for the soul” or divided as the reader needs it or has available, in Rev. Parkhurst’s words, “Quite Time”. At $3.99 it easily fits in even the most taxed holiday budget and would be a worthy “e-gift” for sharing inspiration.
