As parents of adult children, we often wonder: Will my children make good choices when they’re on their own? How can I let them go when I’ve held them for so long?
Parent and author Jodie Berndt understands what it’s like to release children into the world and still care deeply about them and everything they will face in life from relationships to career decisions and everything in between. In Praying the Scriptures for Your Adult Children, Jodie continues her Praying the Scriptures series with biblical prayers for your adult children, whether they are just leaving the nest, flying well on their own, or struggling to take off at all.
Each section focuses on a different aspect of adulthood, with encouraging stories from experienced parents who are praying their children through rocky marriages, health concerns, financial challenges and other real-life issues. At the end of each chapter, you’ll find personalized prayers for your children taken straight from Scripture. Each chapter also includes verses for you to pray for yourself as you take the challenging step of trusting God to care for your children in ways that you can’t.
With grace and wisdom, Jodie addresses cultural trends such as couples living together before marriage and young adults leaving the church, as well as the painful realities of loneliness, addiction, and mental health issues. With hope-filled words for the parents of the prodigal, she is particularly sensitive to the long-term prayers we offer, even as we doubt ourselves and grieve over our children’s choices.
Whatever you are praying for, you will find confidence and peace in these powerful prayers for your kids. Praying the Scriptures for Your Adult Children guides you to the bedrock of God’s promises as you release your children to God’s shepherding care.

Three of my five children are adults now, and like the author of PRAYING THE SCRIPTURES FOR YOUR ADULT CHILDREN, I did everything right. I homeschooled. I had them in Sunday School, and church services two times on Sunday and on Wednesday night. My husband is a pastor. My children were immersed in God's word. But yet they are making mistakes. One son has been arrested twice and is now floundering and struggling to get a job, hold on to it, and make wise choices due to his bad choices. As the author says, making all the right decisions and raising your children in church and strong Christian homes aren't guarantees that they will turn out perfect. And this book is perfect for praying for your children using Bible verses, no matter what trials they may have or bad decisions they make. This is a book for parents of all adult children. Grandparents of adult grandchildren. As the author says, it is never too late to pray for your child. Determine to be a prayer warrior in 2018. PRAYING THE SCRIPTURES FOR YOUR ADULT CHILDREN is a good way to start. I was given a copy free. All opinions are my own.
DEC 27 Praying the Scriptures for you Adult Children I received this book for the purpose of review. The secondary title, Trusting God with the Ones You Love. Five sections covering every part of your adult children's life. When I received this book I was excited and challenged. We definitely try to pray for our children together on a daily basis......life doesn't always allow that "together". As I have read the book and used some scripture suggestions with the devotional thought, I became quickly aware of my inadequate use of scripture. Realizing the victory is always in the God's word, I can see where my prayer life needs a serious injection of commitment to pray daily for our children, together or alone. In the early pages of this book, Berndt writes, “Even the most faith-filled believer will find himself or herself growing weary or even discouraged at times. It doesn’t matter how old your children are. You never stop being a parent. You never stop caring…Prayers is a battle,, and every warrior gets tired….We can come alongside one another in prayer, lifting up each other’s hands as we tap in to the words first breathed by the Father—words that spoke his life and his promises over our lives.” (Page 21-22) I would highly recommend this book for the parents and grandparents of adult children. It will give you purpose and peace as you pray for those wonderful gifts to your life. The BEST part is you will enjoy getting to know God better.
I especially like the sub-title for Praying the Scriptures for Your Adult Children: Trusting God with the Ones You Love. I think that really says what we are doing when we pray. God is worthy of our trust and we have to trust that He cares for our children more than we even do. Praying the Scriptures for Your Adult Children by Jodie Berndt is divided into 5 sections: Praying for Your Adult Child, Praying for Your Adult Child's Relationships, Praying through the Milestones in your Adult Child's life, Praying for your Adult child's Health, safety, and well-being, and Praying for your adult child's victory over temptation. Each section has three to five chapters within it. Each chapter offers both practical advice and encouraging stories from other parents. At the end of each chapter there are prayers taken from Scripture where you can insert your child's name and pray those verses for your child specifically. Praying the Scriptures for Your Adult Children is one in a series that Berndt has written about praying for your children. My son is sixteen so I plan to get the book especially for parents that are praying for teenagers after seeing this one. However, it won't be long before my son will be an adult and this book will be even more applicable for my use. Some of the information in this book already applies to him in some places and I especially liked the chapter on praying for your child's transition to adulthood. Berndt doesn't shy away from the tough stuff many parents today face either, such as addiction, mental health struggles, sexual sin, and strength to resist a party culture. I like the fact that it is encouraging and that it focuses on the Scripture verses for the prayers. I plan to keep my copy right along with my Bible for my quiet times. I think it would be a good book for any mom or dad to use in praying for their adult child. I received this book from the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review in exchange for the book.
Praying the Scriptures for Your Adult Children by Jodie Berndt Written with compassion, humor, insight and lots of personal examples, this book should be called a handbook for prayer. I found it to be very practical and encouraging. Jodie includes scriptures for parents to pray for themselves and then scriptures for parents to use in praying for their adult children. The topics include prayers for relationships, jobs, finances, protection and freedom from addiction. I couldn’t think of any topic that she didn’t cover. The book’s size allows pray-ers to easily carry it to use with prayer groups. The author also has a study guide. I think my copy will be well-used and I am grateful to the publishers for a free copy in exchange for this review.
