I am dumbfounded by the criticism for the later books in this series. I have read the entire thing beginning to middle, as there is no end yet, and I have not finished one book yet that did not leave me waiting impatiently for the next, and keep me turning pages until the very last one. I have never read any other author with the ability to maintain character development, plot development, and overall theme over this length of story. As for the comments on losing the main story in tangents, and the author trying to sell books. You've got to be kidding. All the plot lines are intertwined and important to the story. And an author cannot get this depth of readership by trying to sell books. Robert Jordan is an artist creating a world because he needs to for himself. We just get to enjoy it.

Robert Jordan is quite possibly one of the most talented authors ever to grace paper with pen. His storyline development, even through this story's many twists and turns is breathtaking. As to him being better than Tolkien... uuummm... no. The two authors really cannot be compared one to another. That would be like asking whether Brett Hull or Joe Montana were a better athlete... they just aren't on the same page. Tolkien's work ended in the creation of a new genre. Jordan is not attempting the same thing. He is, however, innovating a new way of telling the same kind of story. I honestly believe that with the Wheel of Time books, Jordan is redefining the concept of EPIC Fantasy.

I thought these books were fantastic. The pace can be a bit slow at times, but the in-depth description of the world makes it all worthwhile. Never before have I seen a series with such depth! I have grown to love the series so much that I have staffed a site based round the Wheel of Time world( www.kinslayermud.org ). The magic system in the story is fantastic. The characters, amazingly believable and well-developed. The plot is nothing short of epic. It may take you a good while to get through the massive bulk of this series, but take my word for it, it is worth every moment!

I loved this book, and I CANNOT wait to start reading the next one. It did take some time to get used to the terminology in the book, and all of the history isn't fully explained by the end of the story. I noticed many similarities to Tolkien's work, BUT this did not put me off. Mainly because Jordan's writing is quite good if not excellent, and he was able to actually build a story of his own. The characters were all a pleasure, especially the wolves, the green man and the Ogier. I also love that there were strong women woven throughout the plot of the story. I'm a sucker for adventure, legends and magic tales. I found this one to be excellent. I would definitely recommend this book to other fantasy lovers. I can't imagine them not being smitten by the characters, and wanting more by the time they reach the end.

what can i say? it's the best books in the world IF you're in the mood to read them. First time I read this book I gave up half way through. 3 years later picked them back up and read the first 4 straight through! This is part of the divine 3 of this series.

While I can most definitely agree with most of the reviews on here that the Wheel of Time is a great read for any fantasy fanatic, I do unfortunately have to express my disappointment to Barnes and Noble. I purchased this set of books in the store and started reading them right away. I just got to page 590 when I suddenly realized the next page in the book is page 623. I am missing 33 pages. Luckily, my mom has this book on her nook so I can still read these missing pages but it is a bit ridiculous that this book is missing pages. Hopefully I do not regret my purchase of the next two boxed sets in the Wheel of Time series.............
