About the Author
Robert Smithson (1938-1973), one of the most important artists of his generation, produced sculpture, earthworks, drawings, and paintings in addition to the writings collected here. Jack Flam is Distinguished Professor of Art History at Brooklyn College and the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. His Matisse on Art: Revised Edition (1995) is also available from California.

If you're a fan of Robert Smithson and want to learn more about his land art, this is the book that you'll enjoy reading. It includes his early drawing and what inspired him to do his creations like Spiral Jetty.
If you are researching Robert Smithson, this is the book to buy. It includes all of his writings, except those that accompany the nonsites. There are many black and white photographs and the book is printed on archival paper. Why not read what Smithson wrote himself, instead of what someone else thinks his works are about? Smithson was an excellent and entertaining writer, and he tells you what his works are about in his writting
