Schooling the Duke
A lady betrayed:
Finishing school instructor, Mrs. Rowena Bryant is hated by her students, revered by the headmistress, and absolutely determined to maintain her financial security. Deceived years ago by the only man she'd ever given her heart to, Rowena relies on no one but herself—that is the best way to keep her most scandalous secret.

A soldier turned duke:
When Graham Linford returned from war on the cusp of death, he discovered he'd been betrayed by the woman he loved. From that moment, Graham shaped himself into an unfeeling nobleman, refusing to ever suffer the agony of betrayal again. Now a duke, Graham is determined no one will ever discover the touch of madness that has haunted him since battle.

Lovers reunited:
When Graham finds himself named guardian to a young lady, the woman sent as a companion to his ward is none other than Rowena Bryant. With every moment spent together, their passion reignites, and the walls they've built to keep one another out begin to crumble. But when their dark past tests them again will true love be enough to repair their damaged hearts?

So much angst, and too much repetition of the same angst without any progression into new territory - loved the ending though. And loved Ainsley - there better be a story about her!

This story drills the truth of the essence of inner self and young love everlasting and overcoming all tests to one happy conclusion. The characters are endearing. I will look for a follow on book to cover Ainsley’s progression into adulthood and entry into society. She has an interesting personality only hinted at during the book. Jack too is a sad but interesting character with too many failures as a trusted friend to hero and heroine. He calls out for a story of his redemption. Hard to put down the story.

I always fall for Ms. Caldwell's characters and Graham is no exception. He and Rowena just broke my heart and made me cry several time. I loved, loved, love this book and I definitely wanted more because it seems there could be some very funny material in another installment. Definitely 5 stars as all her books are, in my eyes!!!

This was such a good book. It's the perfect second chance romance. I'm glad I read the prequel ( In Need of a Duke) first so that I knew the gist of the story and locket. Graham Linford the Duke of Hampstead and Rowena Endicott were friends and then lovers until Graham went off to war with a promise to return and make Rowena his wife. With Graham born the second son he was free to marry who he wished or so he thought. While away at war Graham's brother dies and he becomes the heir. Unknown to Graham his father would of never allowed him to marry Rowena and he does everything in his power to make sure that it will never happen. Coming home to a fate he never wanted and to find that Rowena is gone and the madness that continues to plague him has changed Graham for ever. Rowena is living a life that she never invisoned and is now a shell of her former joyful personality, the top instructor at a finishing school. Never thinking she'd see Graham again one day he shows up at the school needing a champion for his ward Miss Ainsley Hickenbottom. Only the best will do and that's Rowena. With so many lies and secrets and heartbreak there may be no way for Graham and Rowena to find their way back to the people they once were. I loved these characters and I want Ainsley to find her HEA. She is one of the shining lights in this book. *Book Obsessed Chicks Review team

Schooling the Scoundrel by Christi Caldwell Heart of a Scandal Series Book One Miss Rowena Bryant was the lead instructor at a finishing school. Teaching young girls how to behave, or more like taking their lively spirits away. Girls like she had been long ago when she had love and happiness. Before she learned how cruel life could be. Graham Linford, the Duke of Hampstead, had hated Rowena for years. Only when he sees her again after thirteen years—he finds that hate isn't very strong. He may still hate her, but he needs her help now for his headstrong ward. I haven't read a book from this author that I haven't enjoyed. Rowena and Graham both have their sides of what happened all those years ago—they just need to hear both sides to see the truth. Easier said than done. **Sexual content

This is Book One in Christi's new series. It is the story of Graham Linford and Rowena Endicott. They loved each other, but there were forces that tore them apart many years ago. They have both tried to make the best of their lives, and now fate has a brought them back together again. What happened all those years ago? Could there be a second chance for them? This story is well-written and complex. The heroine is very strong and courageous, and the hero is a kind man who is tortured and who has closed himself off from relationships. All of the characters are well-developed and very likable. This is a wonderfully emotional read (with an unexpected twist), and I was completely enthralled from the first chapter right up until the end. I am impatiently waiting for Book Two! Highly recommended!

Christi Caldwell writes with so much emotion. I love how her characters aren't perfect. Whether it is physical or mental, her characters have to overcome their past and self doubts to find happiness. I always end a Christi Caldwell book feeling happy and counting down the days til the next because with the speed in which she writes, I never have to wait a year for the next. I definitely recommend this book. You won't be disappointed.

5 Stars This was marvelous. Absolutely Marvelous. The characters call to your heart, some make you want to pull them in for a hug and never let go such as with the ward, and others make you want to punch them such as with the best friend. And others make you want to show them what the world can enrich a persons life such as with the two main characters of the book. Rowena Endicott is done with society and with the social pressures the ton puts on her. After being forced out of her home and forsaken by those she loved with her whole heart she is building a life for herself as a teacher for young women getting ready for their coming out. Her plans for never turning into her mother or going back to her past are completely decimated when her head mistress forces her to go with the man who had forsaken her so long ago. Graham Linford, Duke of Hampstead is saddled with a ward that he never anticipated. After the man who saved his life died Graham is forced to take in his illegitimate daughter. Now Graham needs to find a companion in order to teach his ward how to act in proper society. And maybe he can throw in a little closure about what happened all those years ago when he found out that the women he loved married another. This book is a HEA with all loose ends tied up quite nicely. I really enjoyed how all of the secrets came to life gradually and how the Rowena and Graham came back together gradually. It made the story extremely enjoyable. I would highly recommend this story to any historical romance lovers. And I would highly recommend Ms. Caldwell to any romance lovers because absolutely none of her stories have let me down. ~A Book Obsessed Chicks Review Team Selection

Rowena Endicott had one true love. A love that didn’t care about her background although she hasn’t told him the whole truth. When circumstances make her love the heir to a dukedom she’s forced to choose between leaving her family or stay and have them suffer the revelation of her and her mother’s background. Accepting the work at a boarding school Rowena becomes Mrs. Rowena Bryant and earns her way to the best teacher. But her love is never far from her mind. Graham Linford was never supposed to become a Duke. He was the spare; the one who could live and love as he chose. And the love of his life deserted him for another before he could return from the war – a war that still haunts him. Knowing he suffers from a madness brought on by the war Graham lives his life with only his best friend knowing the way he suffers. Until he unexpectedly becomes the guardian to a fellow soldier’s daughter. Now he must find someone to teach the girl the ways of the ton until he can procure a wife to take over the task. Fate finds Graham at the school where Rowena teaches and that same fate finds Rowena being the one recommended for the job. Will Graham and Rowena continue thinking the worst of each other or will the love they long thought buried surface? Christi Caldwell does an excellent job in portraying the hurt and betrayal Graham and Rowena felt. Rowena shows a strength and determination to rise above what life handed her yet you can still see the vulnerability she feels. And what can I say about the forces that separate these two? A despicable father, a self-centered mother, a jack a** best friend all made me want to jump into the book and smack them around (and while there shake sense in Graham and Rowena). This story truly brings out the range of emotions in this reader and I LOVE IT and I can't wait to see what Ms. Caldwell does next!!
