For a lesser band, a compendium of B-sides and previously unreleased material might not amount to much, but veteran punk troublemakers Green Day have always exceeded expectations despite their bratty-boy demeanor. Contrary to its winking title, Shenanigans boasts lots of surprisingly stellar musical moments. A cover of the Kinks' "Tired of Waiting for You" replicates the original's swooning charm, while the hypercharged surf instrumental "Espionage" (which previously appeared on the soundtrack to Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me) barrels along with the intensity of prime Ventures. Most of the tunes fall neatly into place among the trio's punk-pop hits -- "Suffocate" boasts a hellaciously catchy chorus, and "I Wanna Be on TV" bounces along with proto-Ramones verve. The set, which makes a nice bookend to last year's International Superhits! compilation, ends on a high note, with the previously unreleased -- and mighty surly -- "Ha Ha You're Dead."

This album is Green Day's rare songs. All of which I have heard underground before this album was released. Not all are old rare tunes. The only new one is ''Ha Ha You're Dead'' a really great tune, written my bassist Mike Dirnt. It also freatures the new radio hit ''Desensitized''. It also has great songs like ''Suffocate'' & ''Do Da Da''.

With Billie Joe's sexy voice, Tre`'s amazing drumming to Mike's hot electric bass skills, this CD is perfect just like all the rest. All the songs are perfect and there is not just one good song, their all good. So when Green Day came about it was all good.

Green Day.... Green Day.... Green day.... Really, do you need to say anything else? Warning may have been a little weak for the punk trio (despite a number of strong songs on the album) and also a bit different in style and demeanor, but this cd will remind anybody that these three guys are still Green Day and they still kick serious arse. The best tracks here are ''Suffocate'', ''Don't Wanna Fall in Love'', ''I Wanna be on TV'', ''Tired of Waiting For You'', and ''Ha Ha You're Dead''. ''Scumbag'' rocks too and nothing here will disappoint you. I love it (you will too), it's Green Day, and I cannot wait for another album of new songs to come out.
