In the decades since he recorded his first album, Leonard Cohen has evolved into an international cult figure--and one of the most literate, daring, and affecting poet-songwriters in the world. Stranger Music presents a magnificent cross-section of Cohen's work--including the legendary songs "Suzanne," "Sisters of Mercy," "Bird on a Wire," "Famous Blue Raincoat," "I'm Your Man," and "The Future"; selections from such books as Flowers for Hitler, Beautiful Losers, and Death of a Lady's Man, and eleven previously unpublished poems. This volume demonstrates definitively that Cohen is a writer of dazzling intelligence and a force that transcends genres.

Leonard Cohen's words not only speaks to me, they are what I would say if I were a mad poetic genius. Over the years, I have spent many hours in both new and used book stores, partly as a book lover and reader, but also with the specific intent of collecting all the works of my favorite writers. It took a long time, but I do now have the majority of his works (all the major stuff) and I still cherish Stranger Music. It is an interesting look into the way that Mr Cohen views his own works, and which ones he believes are the most important. An awesome text for people who love Leonard Cohen and for those who are looking for a good entry point into his poetry.

I originally picked up this book as a rainy-day read out of my oldest brother's ex-college-library collection. Little did I know what a beautiful pattern of words it encompassed. This is entertaining inspiration even for the rhyme-who-with-you poet. No one will be excluded from feeling this book's fire, which I recommend to warm you throughout the winter months and light your life through late summer evenings. It is more poetry than a book, yet more a story than poetry. 'Stranger Music' has kept my mind creative and my soul deep.

Now that I have read this book, Cohen's past has become even more brilliant. This collection paints a new and distinct picture with every chapter.
