Choose the one guy you can’t have . . .

As captain of a San Francisco Bay tour boat, Pru can handle rough seas—the hard part is life on dry land. Pru loves her new apartment and her neighbors; problem is, she’s in danger of stumbling into love with Mr. Right for Anybody But Her.

Fall for him—hard . . .

Pub owner Finn O’Riley is six-foot-plus of hard-working hottie who always makes time for his friends. When Pru becomes one of them, she discovers how amazing it feels to be on the receiving end of that deep green gaze. But when a freak accident involving darts (don’t ask) leads to shirtless first aid, things rush way past the friend zone. Fast.

And then tell him the truth.

Pru only wants Finn to be happy; it’s what she wishes for at the historic fountain that’s supposed to grant her heart’s desire. But wanting him for herself is a different story—because Pru’s been keeping a secret that could change everything. . . .

Let me start out by saying l love Jill Shalvis books. Her stories make me laugh. This is the start of a new series and I enjoyed it. Finn and Pru had a lot of chemistry. I laughed and felt some of their heartache too. The supporting cast l adored and can't wait to read more about them. I've already pre-ordered the next stand alone book. I'm sure we'll get glimpses of Pru and Finn in book 2 also! Grand slam for Jill Shalvis.

Pru has been helping everyone who has been hurt by her parents car accident. She wants Finn to start enjoying life again. When Pru starts helping Finn enjoy life she discovers she likes him too. Jill has put the feeling and emotions in her characters. Love the story and looking forward to the next one.

I really enjoyed this one. Another great group of characters; Jill seems to always be good for that! I’m giving this 4 out of 5 stars. I liked Pru a lot. She’s down to earth, funny, and can handle pretty much anyone…and anything. Finn sounds sexy as heck, and so does Sean…and a few other locals. Basically, read this book to see all the male glory haha. Being a bar owner seems to be a thing for several of Jill’s characters (I’m way behind on her books), not that I’m complaining. Thor was super adorable. Eddie is a pretty fun character, although he’s not a huge part of the book overall. And then there’s the core group of friends that I enjoyed…and who I’m pretty sure are most, if not all, of the main characters in the rest of this series. I can’t wait to read more about them! I’ll admit the book was kind of predictable, and I wasn’t really surprised by anything. However, I still loved it. The characters made up for everything else in spades. Check this book out if you like a funny contemporary romance!

Pru Harris is a captain on a local sightseeing boat and lives in the Pacific Pier Building. Next to the building is O’Riley’s Pub owned by Finn and Sean O’Riley. Sean is the younger brother and a natural flirt with the ladies. Finn is more serious but notices Pru when she first comes into the pub. Although shy, she finally talks with Finn and their friendship develops into romantic interest. But Pru has a secret that she needs to tell Finn but is afraid when she does, their romance will end. Jake, her friend and boss, tells her the longer she puts it off, the harder it will be but the right time never seems to come up. How can she tell him that her parents were the drunk drivers who killed his father in the terrible accident? Although I liked the characters, I found that the friends' meddling in the lives of Pru and Finn obnoxious. What is between these two should be just that, between them and not their friends.

To summarize: this was a fun start of a new series. I really like how Jill Shalvis writes romances and this book was no exception. I liked Pru and Finn as main characters and I enjoyed seeing them fall in love. There are a lot of fun scenes, some hot scenes and it was a read that kept my attention. I did have a bit of trouble with the conflict, which involves a secret Pru didn't tell Finn. I felt like it got blown a bit out of proportion and then at the end it got resolved way too easily for how big of an issue it seemed before that. Luckily the romance and the great group of characters more than made up for my issues with the conflict. The side characters all have enough personality and it make me look forward to see more of them. I already have book 2, so I hope to start that one soon.

Sweet Little Lies is book one of the Heartbreaker Bay series. I'm thinking this is my first Jill Shalvis book ever, so I was glad to get to try one of her books out finally! I've seen so many of yall love her work before and have to agree her stuff is was quite good. We start off meeting Pru, she's the captain of a tour boat and stays quite busy. She's recently moved into a new apartment and found an Irish pub close by that makes delicious food. It doesn't hurt that there's a hottie (Finn O'Riley) that runs the place with his younger brother. There's an instant attraction between them and though Finn is all work and no play, he starts changing his ways for Pru little by little. I enjoyed their relationship as well as their friends that make appearances. It felt like a real life situation with the exception of the looming secret that Pru has that could potentially crush anything between them. She's too afraid to tell him, and you just know it will blow up in epic proportions when it's revealed. As I said, this is my first Jill Shalvis novel and surely won't be my last. I really loved how she created characters that were down to earth and you could easily connect with them. The funny bits were amusing and the relationship aspects were steamy and enjoyable. All in all, I'd say give this book a shot if you like Contemporary Romances where the lead character has a secret and it could ruin everything. I can't be the only one that loves those types of tropes.

I loved this book & Finn & Pru. I laughed & cried throughout the book. Pru is resilient & took to heart all the families affected by her parents drunk driving accident. Even though it wasn't her fault, Pru has done what she could to help those affected anonymously. She is also a hard worker, working as a charter boat captain. Finn returned home at 21, after his & his brother's father was killed. He opened a pub, is trying to make his younger brother Sean grow up & is very disciplined. His life is very serious & Pru helps add some fun & relaxation for him. I also enjoyed the other characters & can't wait for their books.

Pru wants to meet Finn. She wants to talk to him, touch him and more. He just has no clue she's alive. Or does he? Finn looks at her when she is all wet. Looking like a drowned rat. Suddenly the chance of a lifetime opens up. Pru has only to reveal the secret... Such a sexy and fun story. I was blown away by the feels I got reading this book. I felt it all. Really great start to the Heartbreaker Bay series. I cannot wait for the next book!

Sweet Little Lies by Jill Shalvis Heartbreaker Bay #1 This book was great! I laughed out loud often (the secondary characters just cracked me up!) Finn and Pru were wonderful toghether. I could feel attraction right from the beginning. Their banter was fun and flirty. I loved how care-free Pru was and how it brought out Finn’s smiles. This book has the feel of Shalvis’ Lucky Harbor series and I truly cannot wait for the next book! Actually, I have already preordered them!!

I love Jill Shalvis! Only she could make San Francisco a small town. Pru is sweet, tough and resilient. Finn is a workaholic who has had to grow up fast to protect and make a life for him and his brother. When these two meet you can feel the chemistry. But can love grow and survive a lie of omission? This may be the thing that breaks Pru and Finn. This is a fun story with a little dog and younger brother for comic relief and a gang of friends and neighbors for support. I can see a lot more fun coming from this crowd and cannot wait.

4.5 Stars SWEET LITTLE LIES is another winner from Jill Shalvis, with a genuinely nice and selfless heroine, an effortlessly charming hero and a really sweet love story, as well as scene-stealing secondary characters and is a really great start to this new series. Ms. Shalvis combines humor, fun dialogue and friendship with a little bit of tear-inducing drama in a really engaging way and Pru and Finn will definitely grab a firm hold of your heart. Pru has spent the years since her parents' deaths making amends to all of those affected by their actions, never mind that it wasn't her fault and that she was barely an adult who lost the only family she ever had. Her latest project is making sure that Finn O ‘Riley finds happiness and fun whisperer that she is, she is going to make sure that it happens for him, but one thing she won't be doing is falling for him. Or so she hopes. Never mind that he is the most gorgeous male specimen she's ever laid her eyes on. Especially not with the secret she's hiding. Finn gave up his life to raise his younger brother after their father's death and running the pub has left him with little time for a life. Until Pru moves in next door and catches his eye and make Finn want a life outside of work. One thing Ms. Shalvis does so well in addition to writing a really great romance is great friendships that make a reader want to join in the camaraderie and this book is no different. Finn's friends are almost as appealing as he is to Pru and for Pru who has had no one since she lost her parents, becoming one of them is unexpected but very welcome. While the drama brought a tear to my eyes, the making up was so worth it. SWEET LITTLE LIES has everything anyone can ever want in a romance - great characters, a lovely location, lots of humor and just the right amount of drama and is a must read. Pru is a ship's captain, as tough and strong as they come, but she has a gentle tender heart. Years ago, while drinking and driving, Pru's parents caused irreparable damage to several families. Pru's mission was to attempt to help all of the families involved in some way. She had accomplished her goal but had one family yet to face, the O'Riley brothers. The O'Riley brothers had a pub in Cow Hollow, San Francisco. Pru moved close to them to meet them and tell them the truth. What she didn't count on was falling for Finn, the older brother. Finn was in need of some fun and Pru considered herself the "Fun Whisperer". Finn had shouldered the responsibility of taking care of his younger brother Sean well before their father had been killed by Pru's parents. He was the heart and soul of O'Riley's, but the burden was heavy. One day, shortly after meeting Finn, Pru wished in the "magic" fountain for Finn to find true love. Pru was sure if Finn could find love, he could find happiness and contentment in life. Finn found himself drawn to Pru, and her "fun whisperer" persona. She was cute, sweet, shy, and just seemed a little off. The perfect combination. They both seemed to be looking for a good time. But that good time grew hot and heavy awfully quickly and Pru had a secret she just couldn't seem to share. I love Jill's stories. They always make me feel good. They are filled with humor and passion. A new series by a flabulous author!

The beginning of a great new series.

Pru's secret comes out pretty early in the book. Her parents were killed in an accident, with her father drunk driving. She has spent the time since she was 18 trying to repair the lives of others that were affected by the accident, including Finn. Finn has been taking care of and protecting his younger brother since they were kids, but they are not kids any more. There is apparently a lust at first sight between Pru & Finn, which happened prior to the beginning of the book & has been smoldering ever since. It was just a matter of time. Pru knows she should tell Finn why she is there (to make sure he gets happiness), but she is falling hard & afraid to lose him. So, of course it is inevitable that the "black moment" will be more and more earth shattering when she finally does tell him. There is a great friend group, for which I am hoping each will get their own book! Loved this story!

Pru Harris is a tour boat captain that moves into an apartment close to O'Reilly's Pub that is owned/managed by The O'Reilly brothers, Finn and Sean. Her goal with getting close to Finn is to bring joy and happiness into his life. He's been much too serious for too long. He's always been the responsible one of the O'Reilly's. She never planned on falling for him. Especially when she has been keeping her real motive from Finn afraid that he'll hate her. Pru has been working very hard to right some wrongs due to her father's actions earlier in her life. As I was reading this book the more I came to respect Pru as a person. She is one amazing, strong, young lady that deserves to be happy too. While reading this book I laughed, I cried and sighed "OOOOO". Some very nice heart warming and touching moments. I completely fell in love with both Pru and Finn. These two need each other and or meant for each other. I loved both Sean and Jake's character in this book and can't wait to revisit with these guys as the series continues.

Every time I read a book by Jill Shalvis I am in love with the characters she creates and writes about; Sweet Little Lies is no exception. It is another example of Shalvis’ sense of humor, her creativity, as well as her outstanding writing ability. This is the first book in her new Heartbreaker Bay series which takes place in San Francisco. At first I was concerned with Ms. Shalvis leaving her successful formula for small town stories. I need not have worried, she created a small community of close knit friends who hang out together and support one another. It still small town feeling only now it was within a large city. Ms. Shalvis did an amazing job taking the reader through the roller coaster as Pru and Finn discover their chemistry, as well as the affection and love they shared with each other. She did an excellent job explaining why Pru needed to make amends for the mistakes of her parents. Finn was an alpha, take care male who was also compassionate for those he cared about. Sweet Little Lies was a fun and entertaining story with likeable characters that you want to support and cheer on hoping for that happy ending. The characters were well written and complex. The story line was riveting and kept my attention to the very end. Shalvis is a talented writer, able to create a funny, romantic story that made it hard, at least for this reader, to put the book down. This is a must read for anyone who enjoys a good contemporary romance that contains a lot of humor mixed in with smexy.

Sweet Little Lies is the first book of a new series by Jill Shalvis and is set in San Francisco. I'd have to say that it is quite different from the Lucky Harbor Series as well as the Animal Magnetism series. However, it has everything that a classic Jill Shalvis book has - lots of humorous scenes, charming primary and as well as secondary characters, great friends who stand by one another. If you have never read a Jill Shalvis book, you are in for a treat and if you have always loved Jill Shalvis, you'd love this new series as well. ** I received an ARC provided by the author in exchange for a honest review

Pru has a big heart and a big secret. The object of her affection, Finn, owns the neighborhood pub and he is totally unaware of how much Pru has to do with his life. Finn has baggage from his father's death and from the man his father was in life. The two of them keep circling each other but hold themselves back. Friends, neighbors and everyone else can see that they are gone for each other but they are both stubborn and conflicted. I really enjoyed his book. Both characters at times made me want to yell at the pages and say " just get over it!". When they finally take a chance it's worth the wait. Of course, romance writers like to keep things convoluted and they fight love right to the end, but we get the big payoff. The supporting characters are great and open up the possibility of future good reading from Heartbreaker Bay.

I love Jill's books, she always has a way of grabbing and holding your attention to the storyline and characters. I liked Pru's genuine heart in helping everyone around her. Finn needed someone to save him. Can't wait to read about the rest of the gang's love conquests.

I love, love, love Jill Shalvis' books, every single one of them. When I hear that a new one is coming out, there's no question that I will be reading it. New book in a beloved series? Great. New series? Awesome. If Jill's written it, I'm reading it. SWEET LITTLE LIES is the first book in Jill's Heartbreaker Bay series. Set in San Francisco, and full of the quirky and lovable characters that are part of all of Jill's books, this one had me from word one. Pru Harris is the do-gooder to end all do-gooders. Feeling responsible for something that happened years before, something that changed the course of many lives, Pru has made it her mission in life to right what she sees as the wrongs done to others by giving them something back to make up for their losses. Finn O'Riley is one of those people. He doesn't know what Pru's about, he just knows that he's never met anyone like her, and wants to know her a lot better. "You've got an interesting job..." "Yes...Interesting. And fun, too." "Fun." Finn repeated the word like it didn't compute. "Now there's something I haven't had in a while." "You know, in some circles I'm known as the Fun Whisperer." One of the things that I love most about Jill's books is the dialogue. Sassy, snarky, often sexy, but never boring. Jill has mastered the art of the verbal, and I love seeing the words that flow between the characters, as well as the interior dialogue, because it never disappoints. Pru and Finn are perfectly matched here, and the whole cast of supporting characters keep right up with them. This, along with the relationships of the tightly-knit community in Heartbreaker Bay, made me feel like being surrounded by a group of people that are the best kind of folks to hang out with. Another thing that Jill does extremely well is sexy time. Finn is one hot ticket, and, if Pru is the Fun Whisperer, then he is the Panty Whisperer. Spark, sizzle, intense combustible chemistry, call it what you will, but these two have it in abundance. It is a true pleasure watching their relationship unfold. 5 stars for SWEET LITTLE LIES and the residents of Heartbreaker Bay. I am really looking forward to spending more time with Finn, Pru, and the rest of the gang, and can't wait for THE TROUBLE WITH MISTLETOE, coming this fall.
