Overview

An Eagle Security armored truck carrying sixteen million dollars worth of diamonds and three million in cash disappears in Washington, DC. The only clue the police and FBI have is the distress call from the crew of Eagle Eleven as it was under attack. Days later, the harpoon-impaled body of one of the guards floats to the banks of the Potomac River. But the body's discovery doesn't put the authorities any closer to finding the diamonds, the money, or the killers of at least one of Eagle's guards. Six months later, with the case gone cold, ex-Virginia cop turned private investigator, Beauford Sloan leaves the serenity of his Blue Ridge Mountain ranch and takes the case on the request of the dead guard's mother. She wants her son's killers brought to justice. Eagle Security's insurance company wants the diamonds and money recovered, and the police and FBI want to close the case. Beauford Sloan, who bears an uncanny resemblence to film star Wilford Brimley, sets out on a trail of clues where death seems to follow his every step. The cunning Beauford, nose to the ground, sniffs out the evidence and heads off to Morocco and finally to Spain where he makes the shocking discovery of the mastermind behind The Eagle Heist. Renown screenwriter and television director, Raymond Austin makes his literary debut introducing Beauford Sloan to the world of crime fiction. Fast-paced and extremely entertaining, The Eagle Heist marks the stunning beginning of an exciting new mystery series.

Good to the last word. Why this as not been turned into a movie or TV show I will never know. The plot is ingenious, but what really makes the book work is its interesting characters and writing. I am off to read Austin¿s second, `Dead Again.¿

'The Eagle Heist' is a page turner with a heart, you feel like Beauford Sloan is family. I can't wait to see what Sloan does next. It would be a great movie!

I was totally captivated right from the start how the incredible 'Eagle Heist' went down. You'll have to read to know what I mean! This book was fabulous! Right until the end I could not figure out who masterminded this incredible heist. Raymond Austin does an amazing job of creating a visual masterpiece in his first book and a very likeable character in the Wilford Brimley lookalike 'Beauford Sloan'- private detective. It must be made into a movie! I'm looking forward to the next in his series, 'Dead Again.'

What a great book! The cast of characters are wonderful. It was quite hard to put the book down. This was the first of Raymond Austin's Beauford Sloan books I've read; I've since read 'Dead Again' and plan to read whatever he writes. I eagerly await his next book.

Austin has a terrific story. Great characters and well laid out from start to end. The English director come writer is a new voice in P I stories. But he is a winner. Hope we hear more of Austin's Beauford Sloan.

writes a powerful private investigative tale that will excite sub-genre fans because a new talent has joined the ranks. The story line is fast-paved and never slows down for even a second. Beauford is a wonderful sleuth whether he globetrots around the world or relaxes in his Blue Mountain home. Sally adds depth so that the audience better understands Beauford. Readers will want Mr. Austin to write more tales starring that Wilford Brimley look alike, Beauford Sloan.

This is one of the best mysteries I have ever read. Raymond Austin has done a superb job creating a unique story with many twists. The way he included his freind, Wilferd Brimley, was great. A must read. BRAVO!

Everything about this novel is remarkably likable; perhaps because Austin has spent decades in the world of moving pictures, he knows how to create detailed characters, dialogue that is both memorable and realistic, and an exciting plot. An excellent real find.

This is the great kind of book that hooks you with the first 2 pages. You have to make yourself put it down so you will not finish it too quickly. Really enjoyed the entire book. Can't wait for the next one.
