Disney's holiday 2000 animated offering The Emperor's New Groove promises a sassy, fast-paced flick more along the lines of Aladdin than, say, Pocahontas, and the soundtrack backs up this impression. With contributions from Sting, Eartha Kitt, and Tom Jones, the songs are a treat for those of cocktail-sipping age, though the big, brassy arrangements are lively enough to keep Shirley Temple drinkers entertained as well. Both Kitt (who also voices a character in the film) and Jones breathe fire into their selections ("Snuff Out the Light" and "Perfect World," respectively) -- the latter with a Latin tempo by way of Las Vegas -- and they're having so much fun we wish they'd stage their comebacks more often. A bit more restrained and refined is Sting, of course, who brings a touch of understatement to the movie's swooping ballads with his renditions of "My Funny Friend and Me" and "One Day She'll Love Me" (a duet with Shawn Colvin). Sting also collaborated with musician David Hartley on six new songs for the soundtrack, the latter half of which consists of selected bits from composer John Debney's playful orchestral score. The final result? When Sting gets into the "Groove" with Disney, musical magic ensues.

This is a very groovy soundtrack from Disney's 2000 Holiday animated offering. The first song, ''Perfect World'', is my favorite, and with a catchy Latin beat and zany, hilarious lyrics, why wouldn't it be?! It is sung by Tom Jones who is ''Theme Song Guy'' in Emperor Kuzco's court. Stings songs are very good, also, but much mellower, of course. The scores are very emotional, and yet at the same time very comedic. Cartoon-ey music to say the least. Overall, I can say I really enjoyed the album.
