Overview

"I have a dog. Nothing exotic or special, just an ordinary dog." Or so this little boy thinks—until one morning, when he opens the door a little early and sees his dog jump out of a limousine. That night, he decides to follow his dog, and that's when the fun starts, in a nighttime romp around town where he learns what adventures dogs get up to while their humans are fast asleep. A terrific read-aloud and true "comedic gem" ( Parents' Choice), Nina Laden's story will have everyone captivated by the coolest dog around.

I fell in love with this book several years ago when a bookstore employee recommended it to me. I bought it for my preschool children and it immediately become one of their favorites. As a child, I always imagined that my dolls came to life when we were not home, so seeing a similar concept in a book for children delighted me. The author is extremely creative not only in the story line of the book, but also the ways in which the words are printed. Now my kids are a teen and a pre-teen, and we recently packed up our picture books to make room for all our new books....but we couldn't bear to pack away this one!! It is my favorite book to purchase for friends and family with small children.

A boy thinks that he has an ordinary dog. His dog knows all the dog tricks but that is about it. He is a boring dog. One morning, the boy sees his dog come out of a limousine and wonders what his dog does at night. He decides to follow him that night and finds out that his dog is the manager of a dog night club.

Summary- A boy is curious about what his dog does in the evenings when he is sent to his doghouse. He is very surprised one night when he decides to follow his dog into the doghouse and finds a world he never knew existed. Strength- Logographic WordsSeveral words on each page have pictures on or around the word that describe its meaning. For example, "lay down" is written on a sketch of a bed and "roll over" is written on a sketch of a rolling pin. Use in the Classroom- This would be a great book to read as a writing prompt. After reading ask students to write an adventure story about a time they followed the __________.

This is a delightful book. I first found it 10 plus years ago in a museum bookstore. It has a captivating story, great illustrations, inventive text, and a wonderful sense of fun and play. It has become my go to book for nieces and nephews and it never fails to charm.

This is an excellent book. It is very thought provoking. Most pet owners assume that their pets are sleeping at night. You may be surprised! The illustrations are beautiful, also. This book will certainly hold your child's attention. Because of the way the words are printed, beginning reader will be able to read some of the text. This book stole my heart. I have an Afghan dog, and this dod is represented in the book. This is not a common breed, therefore, it is rare to see anything 'Afghan'. As a matter of fact, many pets are represented in this book. Read and enjoy.
