Overview

Years after his death, the legend surrounding rapper and actor Tupac Shakur continues to grow. Although he may be best remembered for his thuggish lifestyle and his contradictory musical mix of gangster posturing and black nationalism, 'Pac was also an eloquent poet. On The Rose That Grew from Concrete, which takes its title from the posthumously published book of the same name, 25 of Tupac's riveting poems are interpreted by an illustrious cast of artists, including poets Sonia Sanchez ("When Ure Heart Turns Cold") and Nikki Giovanni ("The Rose That Grew from Concrete") and rappers Mos Def ("Can U C the Pride in the Panther") and Q-Tip ("The Fear in the Heart of a Man"). Set to music that ranges from the smoothed-out R&B of Dead Prez's interpretation of "U R Ripping Us Apart" to the quiet piano accompaniment of Reverend Run's rendering of "God," each selection reveals the sensitive soul that lurked beneath the rapper's wild and crazy public exterior. Perhaps the disc's most prophetic track is the Outlawz's interpretation of "In the Event of My Demise," on which Tupac eerily predicted, "I will die before my time because I feel the shadow of death." The lyrically profound The Rose That Grew from Concrete is a moving tribute to one of hip-hop's greatest talents. Abby Addis

2 pac has made a great impaq in my life. If it wasn't for him I would of never started to write music. There has never and will never be any rapper as poetic as him his words just captivated so many people just by his lyrics and just made u picture the struggle and pain that he himself went through and I thank u pac for makin me be poetic, but I know I will never be greater or better than u. At first I'd just write any rhymes that came to my head but ever since I heard his music my vocabulary started grow and make real music and hopefully one day to rock the world like u did leaving a mark in this world as one of the greatest rappers like 2 pac. *2 Pac will always live on because he's rose will never faid away*

I LOVE TUPAC BECAUSE OF JUST BEING HIM NOT JUST HIS MUSIC. HE'S THE REASON I STARTED WRITING MY OWN MUSIC. WHEN I GET IN THE MUSIC ENDUSTRY I WILL MAKE A BIG IMPAQ JUST AS WELL AS HE DID IF NOT MORE. THIS NEW POETIC CREATION OF THE YOUNGEST LEGEND SEEMS LIKE IT'S GONNA BE ON THE TOP OF THE CHARTS FOR A WHILE. THAT'S MY HEART TILL I DIE!!!!!!!!!!!! '' 1 LUV TA THE REALIST SEE U WHEN I GET THERE DOG''

This cd, like all the rest of his, was yet another excellent one. I am still adding to my collection but i truly love this cd. If you love Tupac and respect him for his music you should buy not only this one, but all of his music, books, and etc. Atleast i am doing this because it has been a dream of mine for years.

This album has a large variety of different sounds and artist styles. I am not a fan of rap and had never been a Tupac fan, but there is no question that his song writting and poetry are beautiful and shows how talented he really was. I was skeptical when I bought this album, but I am pleasantly suprised! Honestly, I cant understand why this album isnt selling better.
