I have to get out of here before he kills me, thought Kathairne in desperation. She reached up and wiped the blood from her numb face. Slowly she made her way to the door. She glanced back to the man who had beat her, he was sleeping soundly. She slipped out and ran to the barn. Once outside Katharine realized her danger. Charles would never let her go, he would come for her. Her fear drove her on to a new town and a new life. But unknown to her, she was being followed.
He stood in the shadows and watched her, always staying just out of sight. He knew her every move, where she went and what she did. Still he stayed back. He would know when the time was right to reveal himself. Until then he waited. Katharine didn't know that he watched her, neither did she know how close he was.
Horror gripped Katharine as she sat before Charles, tied to a chair. There was no escape. In desperation, she cried out. Suddenly the room filled with an incredible light and her eyes were opened to an impossible sight.
