Whales & Nightingales

Whales & Nightingales

by Judy Collins

Judy Collins found herself in the Top 40 with her adaptation of "Amazing Grace." Whales & Nightingales is full of good songs ranging from Bob Dylan's "Time Passes Slowly" to songs by Jacques Brel and Pete Seeger. Collins also had a hit with her adaptation of the song "Farewell to Tarwathie" which she sang over the accompaniment of Humpback Whales. It opened new doors for her and for folk music in general.

One of the essential albums from middle period. Excellent song selection and arrangements; not so "poppy". And she had a "hit" in the folk world with "Amazing Grace"! Baez's "Song for David" opens and shows power of arrangements throughout album. Powe being a word seldom used in folk as well! I was/am professional guitarist and owe alot of my taste and professionalism to Judy Collins!-Jimmy the teletwanger
